David John Abbott 1993 - 1996
Welcome to everyone visiting this site.
This site was built to act as a lasting MEMORY for DAVID JOHN ABBOTT, who at the tender age of 3yrs was called to sit at the side of God.
I and my family had the great pleasure of knowing and looking after David at times and it was so uplifting to see this little lad enjoying his life. I shall always remember his smile, big blue eyes and most of all his bravery even when he was very poorly.
David lost his battle for life on December 7th 1996, just three days after his heart operation at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London.
David was born with a defective heart valve, which was diagnosed at the age of 14 months and his only hope was a heart transplant. After two and a half years of waiting for a suitable heart, David was given an organ from a two year old child from the North of England, but due to a pervious illness which he was just getting over he was just too weak to pull through.
Everyone that got too know David fell in love with his big blue eyes, and smile also his great courage that he showed even at such a tender age.
He was often in and out of the Local Children's Ward at Peterborough District Hospital and Great Ormond Street where all the nurses fell in love with him.
He is sadly missed by all that got to know him and will always be in our memories and thoughts.
But let us not forget the parents of the tragic two year old that died and whose heart went to try and save David, it must have taken great courage for them to have given consent to the transplant and without more people like them a lot more children and adults would not survive.
I.L.M.O.D.A. Stands for In Loving Memory Of David Abbott.
I was completely devastated by the news of David's Death when we got that Phone call in the early hours of the 7th December 1996, his funeral was on the 12th of December 1996 and was attended by a large number of people, including nurses from both hospitals and members of the press and television that got to know him.
I go and talk to David at his grave side often, and know that he is always with those who love and cared for Him.
My final words are PLEASE become an Organ Donor.
